Update! 8/20/2008
Please sign the Recycling for Paloma Creek Petition at http://www.gopetition.com/online/21349.html
-------------
I moved from Plano to PC and we use to recycle about 70% of what is now trash. I did some leg work on what it would take to get a program in place here. Below is a summary.

Mustang is only billing for our water and trash services the Fresh Water District/HoA holds and contracts the services. Mustang said recycling was talked about 2 years ago or so and it was voted down. The people who I have spoken with who have lived here for 2 years plus has never heard of it.

WM has a single stream recycling program but the cost is unknown at the current time. I have talked with a few people at the HoA and the FWD and they are currently getting cost information (should be under $5)

Once the information is gathered there will be a vote or petition...

Meanwhile...So the question what do other people in PC think? I have heard it may only cost a extra 1-5$ per month. I added a poll to this post so please vote and say what you think.

-Jonathan

I'd be willing to pay a little extra for the service. I am already paying an $10 more a month for the Fire Station, so what is a little more. Plus I'd use the service.

I recycle at my house, but usually haul it off to the Frisco Recycle and cans to Denton. I am thankful that I do recycle or else my trash would be overflowing each week with excess.

It is amazing how much you really do recycle stuff. Cans, the papers off them, bottles, food boxes, baby food containers, you name it.

I am teaching my oldest what is recycleable and where to put it at in the garage. Now if I could just teach my husband ....

I'm all for recycling. I started couponing back in january and I get loads of newspapers on Saturdays and feel horrible about having to throw all of them away, especially when all I want is the coupons. I'll pay a bit extra to get a recycling program here. I think it's a smart move.

I definately think that recycling is a great idea! I am always throwing out stuff that I know can be recycled but don't know where to take it. If it was picked up at home, it would soo easy to do!!

It was voted down a couple years ago. Mustang sent something out in the monthly bill and asked for people to vote. I do not know how many did, but it did not make it far.

I would do it, if it were available.

I voted against this last year. I forget what the charge was going to be exactly to have a recycling program but it was too much for me to justify. I personally think we shoiuld not have to pay for the service but instead get a discount on our Mustang bill. Reasoning????

WM will have alot less trash to pickup which will offset part of the cost. WM will get paid for the plastic, aluminum, and paper.

I did work for Weyerhauser company previously for many years which actually processes alot of the recyclables so I do have some knowledge of this.

We recycled in Wisconsin. It did not cost us any more, or if it did, it was like $12 more on our quarterly water bill. We were very used to it and would have no problem doing that now again.

Yes, it would be nice if it didn't cost us anything, but I doubt that will ever be the case.

I was thinking it was 10-15 a month for the recycling. I voted against it because it was too expensive.

I work near the landfill in Denton...I would be more than happy to help people take recycling in to the drop-off there, it's literally right on the way to work.

You can really make an amazing impact on your waste stream if you recycle...once you've lived in a city that recycles, it really changes your perspective.

Of course, I'd rather have curbside recycling in Paloma...but if that isn't an option, I wouldn't mind helping do a drop-off for some of y'all.

Several years back, the extra cost was only going to be $4 a month more than what we currently pay. I couldn't believe people would vote this down. But in my house, my husband voted against it because he thought it should be free. Well, now we probably pay more than that with my weekly trips to recycle everything myself, not to mention the pile- up that it creates!

Here is an idea. Some big organizations have corporate social responsibility programs. How about if one of the local businesses creates an area where we can drop paper, plastic, etc? I can see how the community and local organizations would both benefit from a recycle program.

If a group is formed to follow through on this idea, I am willing to volunteer some of my time.

Nikki,

Thanks for the info on the recycling centers. I was wondering where the nearest ones were. Now I have a place to take all those newspapers! It'd be a heck of a lot easier to do it at home, but until we get something going in the neighborhood I'll have to cart everything to Frisco.
